How To Be Me In The Morning...

Here are a few steps of what you should do in the morning from the time you wake up to when you arrive at school.

  1. Get woke up by step dad, usually fall asleep for 10 minutes then have to be woke up again.
  2. Light the fire, only if mum hasn't already beat you to it.
  3. Have a quick 10 minute shower then spend 10 minutes in front of the fire getting dressed.
  4. Make lunch (try to do this when no one is looking so you can sneak a sweet treat in there as well)
  5. Once bag is fully packed, load about 10kg of Nutella onto one piece of toast.
  6. Sit in front of the blazing hot fire until mum yells at you for not being ready for school
  7. Protest with mum that your bag is packed and you're ready for the day.
  8. Head off down the road and wait 5 minutes for the bus to come screeching round the corner.
  9. At the Waimapu Garage swap on to the primary/intermediate bus.
  10. Head strait to the back of the small bus and talk to your fellow school mates.
  11. Once the bus has come to a complete stop at TIS, exit through the back door.
  12. Walk run across the field, because you will usually be late.
  13. Walk into class unpack your bag, get your tools of the trade and engage in conversation with your peers.

Daily Blog Post - Story

Hungry Hungry Hippo
"Don't eat my house" begged the man. The hippo had munched a large hole in the side of my house claimed the man to the FHI (Fat Hippo Investigation). The FHI were standing with the poor old man outside his shack talking to him about how the hippo got inside anyways. The man mumbled "he literally ate through the side of the house". He was talking to the CEO of FHI, Jonathan Sandwalker. Jon was a really serious man and he didn't choose to work for the FHI he wanted to work for a crane company. It had been his life long dream. Suddenly a thunderous roar came from the small shack... The bear had ate through the roof of the shack. Jon realized that this was his moment to live his dream, he immediately called a crane hire company to deliver a crane to retrieve the bear out of the top of the shack. Half an hour later the crane arrived. Jon hopped into the seat of the crane and slowly lowered the hook over the hippo and grabbed it in a sudden movement and maneuvered the hippo to safety. The man returned to his house later that day...

Heart Rate

What is a heart rate?
A heart rate is the rate that the heart beats. Doctors can quickly check your heart rate as a quick evaluation of your health. It is determined by the number of beats per minute. When you age your heart rate slows down gradually.
What is the normal heart rate for someone your age?
By the age of 12 or 13 your heart rate would be at 70 - 120 beats per minute. This number increases during exercise.
When you exercise your heart rate...
When you exercise your heart rate rises greatly, when you relax it decreases back to normal.
How does your heart rate change as you get older?
Your heart rate gradually slows down as you increase in age, therefore making it harder to exercise
How can you measure your heart rate?
You can check your pulse by holding two fingers on the back of your wrist after exercising you count how many beats you can feel. Count the beats and after a minute the number you get to is the rate your heart is going.

Room 43 Visit

Yesterday we visited room 43, the satellite class, disability class. Their old classroom burnt down from a fault with an electrical fan. They now have a temporary class in front of room 41 and 42. We organized with the teachers to come and meet the kids in the class. We were sent off in small groups to view the new setup. Bobby showed us around. We went through all of the rooms, met the teachers and the kids. The children were all very friendly and were welcoming us back any time we wanted to visit.

The Weekend

Even though we lost our football game, I won players choice player of the day and a free voucher for a kiddies meal at Lone Star. We lost 5-2 but our coach said we had a hard game and that we played the best game we have had so far. In the final minute we were awarded a penalty, we scored from that.
Unfortunately my mum's knee buckled during he football and she had to go to the hospital. Luckily my aunty was watching the game, so she brought me home. About 4 hours later mum arrived home.

Teenager Problems

One of the problems for teenagers these days is drinking alcohol, at least 50% of teenagers have had more than one drink in their lives. Another problem is smoking, 16,000 people have stopped smoking since 2007/08. But that was still only a 8% drop. Yet another teenage problem is bullying, 30% of teenagers in the U.S.A are either a bully or a victim of bullying. Depression is another main problem, about 20% of teenagers in New Zealand face teenage depression. Violence and fear is the last one, 37% of teenagers feel unsafe in school.

Extinct Animal Description

Trilobite

A trilobite is an extinct marine invertebrate that is said to have lived 250 million - 600 million years ago.  Several thousand species of trilobite have been discovered by their fossil remains. These insects were 1/4 of an inch (6mm). These insects became extinct by super-vulcanism - lots of volcanoes spewing lava into the atmosphere killing most forms of life.

Important Science Discovery

The Big Bang Theory

Scientists believe that the universe came into existences 13.7 billion years ago with a massive explosion called the big bang. The event marked the beginning of time. In 1927 Georges Lemaître proposed the big bang theory. The theory says that all the matter in the universe was compressed into a small dot then in a fraction of a second the dot expanded. Here is a video explaining the big bang theory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=EUe_Vfi5IL0#!

Science Experiments

ROLLER COASTERS

Last year our house had to create a roller coaster for a marble. Each class made one or two roller coasters. We then shared them at house hui to find the best to compete in the school competition. My class made the worst roller coaster as we did not know that we could use paper and cardboard. The winning class was room 42 with an amazing 1-2m high coaster. Room 29 had a water world roller coaster with jumps and loops. Our class was told that we were only allowed to use straws so they did not function as well and the marbles kept falling off. Our best class coaster was  about 30cm high. Our technique was getting two straws, cutting them to size, sticking one straw inside another and then glueing them to make it secure.

Homework Challenge G2

Create 3 three course meals

Number 2: American Diner

Entrè

Main

Desert

Feedback From Guests:

Karen: When you first told me you wanted to make potato and cheese soup, I wondered whether I would be able to persuade you to make something else as I thought it sounded horrible.  Oh my goodness, I couldn't have been more wrong, this soup was DELICIOUS!!!  The flavour of red potatoes with blue and romano cheeses was just divine and the texture was smooth and velvety.  Yum, yum YUM!!!  You should give this recipe to Miss Campbell.

Bruce: I totally agree, the soup was incredible! In fact I could have had it as an entre, main and dessert.
Very well done Flynn.

Rimu Year 8 Camp 2012

Camp was held in the first week of term 2. Room 41 & 42 headed up to camp on Monday and returned on Friday. The teachers organized activities for Monday & Tuesday. Our main activity days were Wednesday & Thursday.

I'm proud that I tried all of the high ropes course. I thought activities like these are going to be fun, but the fear kicks in as soon as I got harnessed up. Once I was lowered to the ground after our first activity, posties walk, I felt more confident and I eventually tried all the other activities.

It made me laugh when Mr Smith was on the walkie talkie with Mr Hart. Mr Smith asked how many hits had Mrs Mills taken, Mr Hart replied "she has taken several shots in the head". Everyone laughed. He then said " she has also taken several shots to the gluteus maximus". All the kids bursted with laughter.

The most rewarding part was doing the rabbit run. I had only taken one hit before the rabbit run. My mum said on the Wednesday "You have to get at least 10 bruises, if you don't get enough in the game you have to do the rabbit run". I had never got shot in paintball before so I did not know what it would feel like to get hit. I sucked it up and ran up the field further I took a shot in the left shoulder, I hid behind the tree for 2 minutes then played for another 10 seconds before my gun ran out of gas.
