The earth and moon are attracted to each other like magnets. The moon tries to pull anything on earth but the earth manages to hold everything except the water. Because the water is always moving the earth cant hold it, the moon is able to pull. There is two high tides and two low tides each day. It takes roughly 12 hours and 25 minutes between the two high tides. Wind currents move the surface water making waves.
